Martha Rosler

She is an American artist, Born in Brooklyn, New York, where she lives now.

She studied in Brooklyn College 1965 and graduated from the University of California, San Diego 1974.

She writes about art and culture and has published about sixteen books of photography, art and writing.

Lotte Reiniger

Lotte Reiniger was a silhouette animator and film director.

She was born in Berlin Charlotte burg, German Empire. Second of June 1899.

She loved cinema when she was young and enrolled in the acting group Wegener belonged to the theatre of Max Reinhardt.

To attract viewer’s attention she started to make different portraits of actors around her which had positive effect and latter she was making elaborate title cards for Wegener’s film, many of which featured silhouettes.

In 1918, Lotte animated wooden rats and created the animated intertitles for Wegener’s Der Rattenfanger von Hamein.

The first film she directed was Bas Ornament des verliebten Herzens (The Ornament of the Enamoured Heart 1919). During the following few years she made six short films.

In 1926 she made a length film The Adventures of Prince Achmed.

 I liked her style and would like to make a short piece for my animation project to reflect my interest in her work.

Barbara Kruger

She was born in Newark, New Jersey, 26 January, 1945. She is an American conceptual artist. She attended to Syracuse University; the school of visual art and studied art and design with Dian Arbus, Marvin Israel at parson’s school of Design in New York.

She obtained a design and art job at Conde Nast Publications. First she worked at Mademoiselle Magazine and after that she worked as a graphic designer, Art director, and picture editor in the art departments at House and Garden, Aperture and other publications.

She is must famous for the black and white strong images with flashing red background with pithy and aggressive text that involves the viewer in the struggle for power and control that her captions speak to.

The main core of part of Kruger works is containing criticism of sexism and the circulation of power with in cultures. Some of her text questions the viewer about feminism desire and consumerism.

The text in her works of the 1980s includes such phrases as

“Your comfort is my silence” (1981)

“You invest in the divinity of the masterpiece” (1982)

“I shop therefore I am” (1987)

Also she has said “I work with pictures and words because they have the ability to determine who we are and who we aren’t”.

David Carson

An American Graphic Designer.

David Carson was born September 8, 1954 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is best known for his innovative magazine design and use of experimental typography. He was the art director for the magazine Ray Gun. 

Carson was perhaps the most influential graphic designer of the 1990s. During the period 1989_2004 David Carson has won over 170 Awards for his work in graphic design. Some of them include: Best overall design, society of publication designers in New York.

Award of best use of photography in graphic design.

In November 1995 he published his first book the End of Print, which sold over 200,000 copies in five different languages. The second book 2nd Sight was published in 1997. it is said that this book changed the public face of graphic design ( Newsweek).

Third book which won the Award of Best Use of Photography in graphic design in 1999 was Fotografiks.

The fourth book, Trek was released in 2000.

2009 when  I started my Graphic Design course at Northampton College, my first project was to do some research about some of the famous graphic designer. My first designer was David Carson and from that time I really loved his design and try to get some idea from his design.

Walt Disney

Walter Elias "Walt" Disney was born on December 5, 1901, at 2156 N.Tripp Avenue in Chicago. He was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon and philanthropist, well known for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. Along with his brother Roy. O.Disney, he was co-founder of Walt Disney productions, which later became one of the best know motion picture producers in the world. The corporation is now known as The Walt Disney Company.

Mickey Mouse was created in 1928.

He used Technicolor for first time in animation during the production of his Silly Symphonies in 1932.

In 1932 animation “The Flowers and Trees” won Walt the first of his 32 personal Academy Awards.

In 1937 he released “The Old Mill” the first short subject to utilize the multiplane camera technique. Following this animation on 21 of December (the same year) “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was the first full long animation premiered at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles.  Other full length animation was made by this company we can mention Dumbo, Fantasia, Bambi, and Pinocchio.

 I enjoy watching Disney's cartoons very much, it was interesting to know where did came from and how it developed.
